Executive Director Patrick Rump had an opportunity to speak to a recent meeting of 4S (San Francisco, Science, Stewardship and Sustainability). This group is a cross-organizational partnership between SFUSD (San Francisco Unified School District) and informal science and environmental education organizations that support each other’s work. The November 28th meeting took place at the Ecology Center at Herron’s Head Park. This provided an ideal opportunity for Patrick to share about the history of LEJ at The EcoCenter and draw attention to how we are still connected and our desire to determine new ways to engage with our former project/programs there.
Collaborative members participate in quarterly meetings with a dual focus on collaborative work and professional development. These meetings utilize the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the collective group to build capacity for high-quality teacher and student programming. Their goal is to serve all 55,000 SFUSD students at least once a year with one of the group’s science and environmental literacy enrichment programs,
The LEJ legacy has been a fundamental part of this cross-sector collaborative that is committed to addressing our environmental inequities through education. LEJ is proud to be a part of this work and strongly supports this network, which includes our collaborative partners Join our vibrant and dynamic team! LEJ is looking for a talented plant propagator and crew supervisor to work with our Urban Greening Team to grow up to 70,000 native plants for habitat restoration in public parks in San Francisco. Pursuing environmental justice here in Southeast San Francisco that has historically seen the highest rates of pollution with the least amount green open space, we both restore habitat for wildlife and people to enjoy, while lifting up our local youth.
