Park Advocacy Day

On May 7, Anthony Khalil, Amanda Lutje, Nicole McClain, LeeAndrea Morton, and Ildiko Polony traveled to Sacramento to participate in Park Advocacy Day with staff and partners from the California State Parks Foundation.

The day illustrated the positive impact that our California parks have on local communities. While we enjoyed meeting with legislators, we also appreciated the opportunity to meet with nonprofit organizations and volunteers from around California who are just as enthusiastic about environmental justice and community stewardship.

The LEJ team met with Assemblymember David Chiu, California State Senator Scott Weiner, first partner Jennifer Newsom, and many others. It was great to see Senator Scott Weiner so soon after he joined us on Earth Day!

Finally, we recommend this Op-Ed from California State Parks Foundation Executive Director Rachel Norton about the need to fund our allocated budget to existing parks.

“In reality Candlestick, along with many other state parks serving our diverse, growing population, doesn’t have the funding for staff, programs and amenities to attract visitors and residents to enjoy this spectacular recreational opportunity.
