LEJ recently helped lead a Bioblitz at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area. It was a great event and volunteers made 1,274 observations of 261 species!
Special thanks to our amazing partners who helped put on this event, California Academy of Sciences, California State Parks, and the SF Public Library Bayview Branch.
The team at California Academy of Sciences shared a few of their favorite finds from the day:
- This cool Sea Spider that came up in a fish net
- A Twenty-spotted Lady Beetle – the first time it’s been uploaded to iNaturalist from Candlestick Point State Park!
- A Striped Shore Crab hiding in the rocks
- A striking Nuttall’s Woodpecker – also the first time this species has been recorded from Candlestick on iNaturalist!
- Did you know there was such a thing as a Friendly Cockroach?
- A Leopard Shark washed up on the shore.
We’re grateful to everyone that came out. And we greatly appreciate Sister Stephanie for cooking up lunch for everyone that came out. It was an amazing day celebrating family, community, and biodiversity!
